Elvis Costello announced that he will release King of America & Other Realms, a six-disc box set, on November 1st.
A social post announcing the box set read: “‘King Of America & Other Realms’ Super Deluxe Edition box set is arriving on November 1st.Compiled by Elvis Costello, the collection features new 2024 remasters, unreleased Royal Albert Hall concert from 1987, newly discovered “Red Bus Demos” and other previously unreleased demos, outtakes and live recordings. Stream the newly remastered “Indoor Fireworks” and pre-order ‘King Of America and Other Realms’ at the link in bio.”
The collection spans 97 songs and includes a 35-page essay written by Costello, with the first disc is a remaster of his 1986 King of America while the second, titled Le Roi Sans Sabots, is described as “demos, outtakes and other realms.” Disc 3 centers around a concert and is titled Kings of America Live at the Royal Albert Hall.
Costello said in his essay: “Assembling Le Roi Sans Sabots has been a little like developing an old negative to discover a photograph, close to a very familiar image but crucially different in composition and implication. It seems that sometime after these initial solo sessions, I resolved to balance the break-up theme with lyrics with a more satirical note.”
